2008 Annual Meeting

2nd Call for Papers – Critical Incidents – Panel Topics
And
Embryo Cases for Evaluation and Development

The Society for Case Research (SCR) is one of eleven autonomous associations that meet together each spring in Chicago for an annual conference coordinated by MBAA International.

Submission Deadline:  October 15, 2007.   The following types of submissions are invited:

Papers that are either conceptual or empirical and address topics related to case research, case writing or case teaching are invited for publication and presentation.

Panel Topics relating to any aspect of case research, case writing, or case teaching. Proposals should include the names, affiliations, and addresses of all participants and an engaging description of the topic of discussion and its relevance to conference attendees.

Critical Incidents that are similar to cases but provide less information upon which to base an analysis, and instead briefly describe a provocative situation [incident] upon which students bring their backgrounds and knowledge to bear to arrive at a course of action. Critical incidents must detail a real situation in a real organization and can be based on either field work or library research. Critical incidents must be submitted with a Teaching Note including: an Overview of the incident, Teaching [learning] Objectives, Discussion Questions [and their answers], a general discussion of additional issues if needed, any special teaching approaches [e.g. role playing], and an Epilogue if appropriate.

Authors presenting critical incidents may use the feedback to polish their incident and submit it to SCR’s new electronic journal, Journal of Critical Incidents – a double blind peer-reviewed journal. Authors may also take the feedback and develop the incident into a case and submit it to the SCR Summer Workshop.

Embryo Cases that are basic outlines or ideas for cases that are not ready for publication. Authors who are interested in receiving constructive feedback and suggestions on how to turn their ideas into publishable cases are encouraged to present developmental works-in-progress including an outline of the case situation and a brief description of how the author[s] envision the case will be used. Based on feedback from small group discussions, author[s] will leave the conference prepared to write an effective case for submission to the SCR Summer Workshop or similar venue.

Submissions of papers and critical incidents should not exceed 15 double spaced pages. For critical incidents, the Teaching Note is to be part of the manuscript document, separated from the critical incident by either a page break or a section break.  Since embryo case submissions are presented for discussion and further development, they should be limited to six double spaced pages.  For more information on submission guidelines visit the Society for Case Research website (www.sfcr.org). All documents must be in Microsoft Word 98 or later and submitted electronically via email to Joy Benson at joy.benson@uwrf.edu. Paper submissions via snail mail will not be accepted.

A letter of transmittal must include the following information for each author:

The contact author should be clearly identified. The transmittal letter should be named as follows: contact author last name_title key word LTR_numeric submission date [day and month].doc. EXAMPLE:  stratton_hrmLTR_0912.doc.
